A fifth-generation native Californian, Timothy was born in San Francisco and raised in the wilds of rural west Marin County. Pursuing a boyhood passion for the life sciences, Timothy attended UC Berkeley and Sonoma State University, from which he received a degree in Cell Biology.

After working at the USDA Plant Gene Expression Center as a research assistant, he then attended graduate school at Cornell University, studying Molecular Plant Pathology on a USDA National Needs Fellowship. While at Cornell he was introduced to the art and science of winemaking through his friendship with local winemaking guru Rob Thomas.

Wine had always been a pleasure, but the connection between the bottle enjoyed and the craftsman had never come through. Timothy discovered winemaking as the intersection of all his passions: biochemistry, plant biology, microbiology, natural history and ecology—and also history, art, anthropology, literature and gastronomy.

While working harvests at Stags' Leap Wine Cellars and Opus One, Timothy studied both winemaking and viticulture in the Master of Food Science program at the University of California at Davis. He continued his career at S. Anderson Vineyards as Winemaker and Director of Viticulture, after their purchase by Cliff Lede Vineyards in 2002.

Timothy left Cliff Lede Vineyards in 2004 to consult, partnering with renowned consulting winemaker Marco DiGiulio and forming is own consultancy, Vino di Milos, LLC.

He currently consults on over a dozen projects in Napa and Sonoma counties. His depth of experience, technical acumen, and passion for the craft provide a puissant set of tools for revealing the unique qualities of each vineyard.
